Life In The Middle Today    By Colleen Pulley

Resolve To Have A Full And Happy Life

Few things in life are guaranteed. We are continuously making adjustments. Our company is downsized, and suddenly we’re the new kid at a new company with the least seniority. Illness is a respecter of no one. Cancer doesn’t care who we are. Surgery is just as painful to the rich guy as the garbage collector. Divorce is just as devastating to a family. All these require us to adjust to the circumstances we find ourselves in.

The trick is to keep our balance, keep on our feet, and keep moving. It is by being adaptable and learning to take the good with the bad, that helps us get through the ups and downs of life. The question is, when we are adapting, and adjusting with the circumstances, are we setting aside the person we really are? Are we giving up on our dreams and aspirations?

I have thought about this for a long time, and in all honesty sometimes it’s hard to know all the time. Sometimes with hindsight we tell ourselves that we should have gone to the left instead of the right. Sometimes we see we should have taken that lower paying job, because it was what we really would have enjoyed ten years later. Hindsight often makes us realize we should have tried to work out our marital difficulties instead of getting a divorce. We should have, we should have, we should have. When we dwell on life’s past mistakes, we slow down our forward vision of what we want in life, and where we are right now.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to becoming who and what you want is you. A good example of this is demonstrated in a movie entitled ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’, starring Will Smith.

Will Smith’s character, Michael Gardiner, was a real life black man who struggled to become a successful stockbroker. What was evident in this man was his ability to overcome obstacles and keep his eyes on the what he wanted to become. I recommend you check this one out and you’ll recognize the inner strength of Michael Gardiner, and maybe you’ll see a little bit of yourself in it too.

The question is do we have the ability to overcome our challenges? The answer to that question is a resounding YES! You can become the best that you can become. So remember, this is a brand new year. Make a resolution to be the best that you can be. Resolve to immerse yourself in life. Resolve to get your hands dirty, and scrape your knees up, and you’ll find your life rich and full of the true meaning of “Happiness”. May this year be the best, and may you realize that you are happier, and more fulfilled. Until later.....Colleen
